The International Forum "Creative Industries of the Arctic Region: Experience and Prospects for Development" unites stakeholders from Murmansk region, Russia, and other countries, dealing with the problems and prospects of shaping the values and meanings for the creative industries of the circumpolar world.

The results of the forum will contribute to the creation of a holistic picture for developing creative industries in the Arctic region and can be used to attract investments and to formulate the regional policy of sustainable territorial development.

The Research-and-practice seminar "Cultural Industries of Arctic Cities" is devoted to the presentation of contemporary models for developing cultural industries in the Arctic cities of Russia and other countries, as well as to the creative social and cultural practices of city residents.

The Arctic region is the most urbanized area. Industrial development of the North became a powerful factor in development of the cities which population created innovative socio-cultural forms of urban life in material, spiritual and artistic spheres.

Within the framework of the seminar it is planned to discuss:

  • experience of developing creative and cultural industries in the capital, industrial, provincial, sea-port and other cities;
  • social and cultural resources, specificity of mental and aesthetic development of urban spaces;
  • ways to activate “historical” and “cultural”, and the creation of modern cultural "texts" in the architectural space of cities;
  • specificity of the development of cultural industries in Arctic cities.

Discussing various forms of organizing social urban spaces and artistic practices will contribute to objective analysis and improvement of the quality of urban environment, the formation of creative industry and the development of the city as a whole.

Discussion platform: "Creative code of cultural tourism in the Arctic" is devoted to the discussion of regional tourism potential. Tourism plays an important role in the state strategy for the Arctic zone development, where real steps are needed to support cultural projects, events and the formation of a social infrastructure for Arctic tourism. The formation of the tourist space of the Murmansk region and AZRF requires collaboration between people employed in the tourism industry, authorities, educational institutions, representatives of business, public organizations and others.

The forum unites stakeholders from Murmansk region, Russia, and other countries, dealing with the problems and prospects of shaping the values and meanings for the creative industries of the circumpolar world. Leading experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Barnaul, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk and the Murmansk region will take part in the discussions about tourism, art, media, museum activities, etc. The format of the seminar will provide an opportunity to thoroughly discuss the phenomenon of creative industries and their specifics in the Arctic region, as well as the prospects for development and renewal.

The results of the forum will contribute to the creation of a holistic picture for developing creative industries in the Arctic region and can be used to attract investments and to formulate the regional policy of sustainable territorial development.

The expert session "Arctic Art and Design" is devoted to the discussion of research results, as well as northern and Arctic design projects, which reflect the belonging to the history, culture, way of life and other traditions of the North and the Arctic. The issues of enhancing the competitiveness of design products and innovative technologies of the northern territories that meet the needs of consumers in the domestic and foreign markets will be discussed.

The main topic of discussion - how do arts and design affect the welfare of a person living in the north? Design can be associated with the North when it is associated with phenomena, services or things specific to the Arctic regions, environmental conditions and materials. Northern design gives local enterprises a competitive advantage and generates relevant experience. Northern design can also contribute to the development of social innovation. By releasing new models for solutions that can be used in the tourism industry and events, design enhances the comfort of people in the northern regions and provides many opportunities for the commercialization of the northern expertise.

The subjects of research and activities of the northern design are related to technological experience and methods in user-oriented and individual design, research in the field of social design, community art and environmental art. Arctic design uses new technological solutions, flexible methods of designing and developing open products, studying their application in the northern regions.
